2009 BIRTHDAY BASH/FUND-RAISER REPORT - INCLUDING PHOTOS!
Launa's Little Library's 2nd annual Big Birthday Bash & Fund-Raiser was another huge success this past fall! Despite threatening weather forecasts, we had a record turnout, and relocating activities inside and to the back yard didn't seem to dampen anyone's spirits!
We are happy to announce that we made over $3,500 at the event! Even though we did not reach our goal that night, we have continued to receive donations for the 2009-10 school year. Contributions to help support Launa's Little Library are welcome year round, and all cash donations are tax-deductible. Checks can be made out to "Launa's Little Library" or "Arthiss Kliever."

The Bottom Line

FOOD: Well, we ran out of hotdogs about 7:00 pm, shutting down our grill and food line a bit early! The good news is, this meant we out-sold last year's event -- the bad news is, some late-comers had to settle for a supper of empty buns, chips, freeze pops and water. (Seems to me that's still a pretty balanced meal -- bread, vegetable (POTATO or CORN chips), fruit (APPLE or GRAPE popsicles) and drink.) :-) Huge thanks go to Cathy Hutton and Ginger Webster and their team, headed up by the Master of the Monster Grill himself, Scott Webster! (In his scrubs, yet!)

CAKE WALK: We also ran out of cakes for our Cake Walk about 7:00 pm! Just like last year, the Cake Walk was a very popular activitiy, with many folks, young and old alike, trying over and over to win a cake! With 40+ cakes to choose from, all winners went away happy, and the losers went back to the circle to try yet again! Kudos to Susan Thompson, Tiffany Fairbanks and their helpers. The Cake Walk was the center of action on Tuesday night, for sure!

ARTIST'S AREA: Rearranging everything to accomodate the threatening weather meant moving our Photo Booth, Face Painting and Glitter Tattoos upstairs into the Library. The lines up the staircase were crowded, long, and hot, but no one seemed to mind too much, and the results -- stunning glittery tatoos and georgeous painted faces -- made it totally worth the wait. Many thanks to Sharon Hodges and Karen Weiss for this new addition to our Birthday Bash.
We were happy that so many of you visited the Photo Booth where Amy Twomey was taking professional photographs. Once you see the finished portraits, many more of you will wish you had! Here's hoping Amy will be on hand again next year to repeat this fantastic bargain!

BOUNCE HOUSE: Sadly, the weather worked against us, and the Bounce House Company cancelled all set-ups for the day. We were sorry for the cancellation, but no one even seemed to notice! And without the Bounce House, Mrs. K's back yard made the perfect picnic and play area! Don't worry, we'll make sure the Bounce House is back next year!

LOVE JUG: The money in the Love Jug has been sorted and counted. We are happy to announce that all the pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters and dollars added up to over $275! This money will be used exclusively for new books for the libary. If you or your child(ren) have any suggestions for new titles, please mention them to Mrs. K. Thanks and a big "Love Hug" to every single person that contributed to the big Love Jug!

HELPERS: Cathy Hutton, Ginger Webster, Sunny Carroum, Susan Thompson and Tiffany Fairbanks headed up the various committees. The following folks worked shifts at the different areas, making sure that everything ran smoothly! Big-time thanks for all their help go to Starla Horstman, Sarah Graham, Erin Bierwagen, Whitney Whitehead, Amy Chester, Lee-Ann Graham, Jennifer Jenkins, Laura Lavender, Shannon Cheek, Mariette Scherer, April Gorman, Lori Read, Elizabeth Wiley, Kristy Kern, Susan Brokaw, Anna Wrightsman, Steve Thompson, Tiffany Walker, Kerry Smith, Mary Huntress, Suzanne Silva, Laura Wegener, Nancy Pigeon, Kristen Moran and anyone else inadvertantly left off the list.

CORPORATE SPONSORS: The following neighborhood corporations made significant contributions to this year's event. Let's all show our appreciation by supporting them in return!
The Tilger/Wright Group, LLC
Christy Norcross Thomas, LLC

THE BOTTOM LINE: Sunny Carroum and her efficient team of ticket sellers were kept hopping, and I am delighted to announce that we brought in over $3,500, which is more than we made at last year's event! (Last year's $6,000 total was from the Fund-Raiser plus individual donations that we received before and after the event.) We would welcome further contributions to help support the Library at any time throughout the year. All cash donations are tax-deductible. Checks can be made out to "Launa's Little Library" or "Arthiss Kliever."
