SPECIAL EVENTS
Throughout the year, Launa's Little Library holds Special Events that allow the library families to come together to celebrate the Library and enjoy a spirit of community. Mentioned below are some of the fun events we have held in recent years.

Memorial Day Madness:
ParadeHere comes the Parade! & Fund-Raising Festival
Our annual Parade & Fund-Raising Festival is our biggest event of the year. Starting off with a color guard, bike brigade, decorated vehicles and balloons, we parade down the street to the fun-filled Festival -- hot dogs, cake walk, face-painting, train rides, bounce houses, relay races -- the works!  Everyone joins in to make this a happy celebration, and a tangible display of love and support for Mrs. K.

Teddy Bear PicnicMrs. K. and all the Teddy Bears
The Teddy Bear Picnic is a fun and happy time in mid-July, and much more comfortable since we started holding it indoors!  The festivities include a bring-your-own picnic lunch, the traditional Teddy Bear March, a Teddy Bear awards presentation, and to round things out, a story time with Mrs. K.  For the past two years, we have added a bake sale -- a delicious addition to the festivities, with all proceeds going to the Library.

Pajama PartiesSinging along with Mrs. K.
Everyone looks forward to the Pajama Parties, which are evening story times with bedtime books and songs, held on selected Friday evenings in August. All the children come in their pajamas, and it's the perfect way to finish off a late summer evening. This is a good event for bringing along your daddies or grandparents, since there's usually a lot of cuddling and snuggling.

Summer Reading ClubThere are 4,818 stones, representing 4,818 books read!
The Summer Reading Club is our way to motivate the children to keep reading throughout the summer months.  Every year, a new and exciting theme offers incentives and prizes for those who complete their reading charts.
This past summer, 370 kids joined our "Great Cross-Country Reading Race." With U.S. maps and stickers to plot their course, and charts in the Library to track their progress, the children were challenged to read (or listen to) 20 books from the Library. earning a place in the Winner's Circle, a toy car, and a car charm for their book bag. (The picture shows the castle mural we built, brick by brick, during our Summer Reading Club in 2009.)
